I’m delighted to feature Stillwater’s very own stationer, Paper Union Co., in our latest Local Vendor Spotlight. Check out the interview with owner and designer Amanda Howerton below!
Tell us about Paper Union Co.
The Paper Union Co. was born out of a desire to see weddings and other special events be unified through their printed pieces from beginning to end. It is such a treat to receive a save the date, invitation, and day-of stationery that is beautiful, cohesive, and perfectly reflects the couple’s personality and tastes—and that’s what I want to design for every bride of mine. The name Paper Union comes from the fact that all of your paper pieces will be unified, and the word union is also a sweet reminder of the holy union of marriage.
What products & Services do you offer?
The Paper Union Co. provides wedding invitations and day-of stationery for the bride who wants a completely branded experience for her wedding. I work one-on-one with every bride to make sure her dreams become a reality—it’s as if she has her own personal designer for her wedding day. In order to achieve the goal that every wedding is a beautiful representation of the couple’s vision as well retains a cohesive look, every Paper Union bride receives the following: save the dates, invitations, RSVP cards, ceremony programs, menus, and thank you notes, and all necessary envelopes—with many additional add-ons available!
What is your specialty?
While the Paper Union will do branding for other events like baby showers and graduations, its specialty is definitely in providing pretty printed paper pieces (that’s a mouthful!) for weddings. Oh, and everything is custom! Paper Union don’t offer any pre-designed lines—so your wedding day designs will be 100% yours.
Do you have a favorite font? Color Combination?
Favorite font and color combination?! That’s a tough question! Our wedding was super colorful because I couldn’t settle on what were my favorite colors to use—haha! I DO love fresh, minty blues though… and bouncy scripty typefaces will always be my go-tos.
How far in advance of their wedding should couples contact you?
Really, it is never too early to get in touch with a stationer to discuss your wedding day dreams as we tend to book up in advance with the nature of our work. But as far as a time frame goes, you should be sending save-the dates roughly 6–10 months in advance of your wedding, so about a year out from your wedding would be a good time to sit down and discuss all of your ideas so your wedding celebration can be as cohesive as possible from start to finish.
Any tips for couples hoping to book with you?
Even though we don’t necessarily get booked for particular days (like a photographer would), the care that goes into your customized wedding designs takes a lot of time, so the Paper Union Co. doesn’t take too many concurrent projects. So get in touch sooner rather than later! Another tip is to dream big about ideas that you have for your goods—there are so many paper and printing options out there including metallic ink and foiling, not to mention diecuts and other specialty effects. The sky really is the limit! You don’t have to have everything laid out in your mind when you contact the Paper Union, but it helps to have your basic color palette and a general idea of the direction you want your wedding day designs to go.
