Mod Fox Photobooth

Photobooth Stillwater OK

Who doesn’t love a little entertainment at a wedding? Thanks to Mod Fox Photobooth, Stillwater weddings just got more festive.

Tell us a little about Mod Fox

Photo booths in the last several years have become very popular and as wedding photographers we see a lot of photo booths at weddings. In this era of digital everything, there is something special now about walking away with a physical photo in your hand. If done right, they can be the life of the party but we kept seeing clunky booths, tacky prints, and cheap backdrops. We knew it could be done so much better. So we started Mod Fox Photobooth as a modern alternative. We had our booths built out of pro photo equipment. In fact, it’s not really even a booth. It’s an open-air design, using the latest technology. Our photo booth is open-air because we believe it’s more fun when everyone’s involved. We aim for a fun, high quality, and easy experience. It has a touch screen, prints instantly, and there’s a social media station on the side. Plus it looks clean and nice. When you see it, you’ll love it!

What types of products/services do you offer?

We specialize in open-air photo booth rentals for events. You have the option to add-on a Keepsake Album which is a chic scrapbook containing a copy of each photo strip from the event. We also do custom Snapchat Geofilters. Clients can also have a wooden USB drive that contains all the photos of the event. For companies and organizations, with a photo booth rental we have ways to help with brand awareness, hashtag launching, and building client lists.

What comes with your photo booth?

All of our rentals come with unlimited prints and custom in-house designed photo strips. We have several beautiful sequin backdrops to choose from and we’ll bring lots of crazy props. We have a social media station so that you can instantly send the photos to yourself. It’s all fully managed by one of our super fun attendants. And all of the photos are available free to download and share. Everything is included for a ridiculously good time!

Other than weddings, what types of events do you cater to?

A photo booth rental is also great for graduation parties, birthdays, holiday parties, fundraisers, dances, and corporate events.

Any advice for couples looking to hire Mod Fox?

Photo booths are a great way to get photos of those people that tend to avoid cameras. Surprisingly even shy people will hop in front of the photo booth. The prints double as favors and keepsakes as well! We designed our booth to be stylish so that it fits in with any event. As photographers, we also made sure the quality of the photos and the prints were top notch. When researching photo booths find out what the setup looks like, examples of the end product, and what’s all included. We pride ourselves on our custom designs and personalizing each event while not charging extra for it. We try to keep everything as upfront and simple as possible. We don’t charge for travel to Oklahoma City, Tulsa, or any town in-between.

Blue Elephant Photography

Few things encapsulate the memory of your wedding day quite like stunning photographs. The lovely couple behind Blue Elephant Photography, Scott and Kristine Redekopp, are true artists, capturing some of the most brilliant images I’ve seen… and I’ve been in the bridal business for quite some time now. I recently caught up with them for an interview.

Tell us a little about Blue Elephant Photography

We are a husband and wife wedding photography team based out of Stillwater, OK. Kristine is from the Philippines, Scott is from Canada, and home is wherever we are together. We shoot mainly here in the South but we will travel anywhere in the world, which we have. For us, there is nothing more fulfilling and humbling than documenting the connection and the story of two people who are madly in love with each other.  We will photograph anything having to do with two people in love which includes weddings, engagements, anniversaries, or just because love sessions. We love adventures so nothing is too far away for us!

What is your photography style?

We describe our photos as moody and emotional. We love raw emotions, candid shots, and real moments. For weddings, our goal is to tell the whole story of the day so that when you look at the photos you feel like you’re there. Whenever possible we like to take our couples on adventures even if they’re mini ones. We look for forests, mountains, and waterfalls or we may opt for undiscovered cityscapes. Even in a place like Oklahoma there are hidden gems that aren’t too far away.

What is your favorite part of wedding photography?

We have several favorite parts during the wedding, we love the slower thoughtful time while getting ready. There is an energy in the air made of excitement and building anticipation. When all the girls and guys are relaxed and just hanging out in the morning, many times that’s when you get the best shots. And we love when the couple opts to do a First Look, which is when they see each other privately before the ceremony and they get the chance to be intimate, gush over each other, and quell any nerves.

Have you had any particularly interesting/exciting shoots?

We love to travel! So anytime we get to shoot somewhere new is exciting for us. Our most memorable shoot so far was a vow exchange at the top of a mountain in New Zealand. We started out with the couple at the base early in the morning while fog still blanketed the area. For 4 hours we hiked up the mountain trail raising not only above the fog but above the clouds! The view was amazing and the couple are awesome humans to spend the day with!

Any tips for couples as they look for their ideal wedding photographer?

We always encourage our couples to shop around. The first thing is to look at the style of the photos and the feelings you get when you look through their work. Meet the photographer or at least Skype them to make sure you’re a good fit. They will be with you the entire day and it’s definitely one of the most important days in your life. You want to make sure that you’re surrounded by people you get along with. Doing an engagement session is a great way to get more relaxed lifestyle photos plus it’s a chance to test out your photographer. Don’t be afraid to shop around if you weren’t happy with the experience. When looking for wedding vendors in general always remember that your wedding is a celebration and planning your wedding should be fun!

Local Vendor Spotlight: Our House on Maple

Our House on MapleOur latest Local Vendor Spotlight is the vacation rental Our House on Maple. When I found “Our House” on social media, I fell in love with it and just knew I needed to do a feature on it!

I approached the owners Carmen and Ray Miller about doing an interview (& video). They were gracious enough to answer my questions and let me take a look around. Check out Carmen’s answers to the interview questions below.

Tells us a little about Our House on Maple.

[Carmen gave me so much wonderful information, I had to just pick a few of the many interesting facts she gave me! To read the story of how they bought the house, go here.]

  • The house was built in 1909.
  • The home builder, Charles W . Smith, was an architecture professor at the University.
  • There’s a 1909 Sears catalog in the entry way. It’s so fun to see what was available at that time and those prices!
  • There’s an old skeleton key in the entry on a red ribbon that I found in the yard. I figure it probably went to the front door long ago.
  • The tile in the kitchen was salvaged from an old Masonic Lodge in my hometown of Shidler, OK.
  • The old coffee grinder in the kitchen still works and is a fun addition!
  • The bunk room was the original master suite!
  • We added the deck not long after buying the house. The old cabinet out there was salvaged from the old florist shop in Cushing, OK. There are jars full of old glass and dishes found at Keystone Lake where the old town of Keystone was once located.
  • Two of the tress on the property are over 100 years old.

Do you have any favorite features about the house?

  • The gingerbread in the entry way was love at first sight. The pillars are awesome, too, and I loved the way there was a display pedestal built on each side.
  • The double mantel Tiger Oak fireplace with original cast iron insert, original mirror and original tile.
  • The builder’s initials and date are stamped in to the wood by the door in the guest room downstairs and the window casing next to the staircase.
  • The three triangle windows on the second story are awesome. Two are located in the attic, but we remodeled the master bath to showcase the one in there.
  • The original front door — though it has changed colors and glass, the door itself is still original.

How would one go about booking a bridal show or Bridesmaid Brunch?

Through Facebook Messenger or by email at ourhouseonmaple@gmail.com. You can also use the “Contact Us” button on ourhouseatmaple.com. Messenger or email is preferred.

How many guests does the house accommodate?

  • For overnight accommodations the house comfortably sleeps nine, with a maximum occupancy of 10.

For small events the house provides:

  • Indoor dining seating for eight. Total indoor seating for 20.
  • Outdoor dining seating for six. Total outdoor seating (back) for 12.
  • Maximum occupancy of 30.

Any tips for brides and grooms?

Don’t let the details cloud your special day. Our outdoor wedding was completely rained out by a flood! I got married in my high school auditorium! It all becomes part of your story and, believe it or not, you’ll laugh about it later. Promise!

Local Vendor Spotlight: Denis the Jeweler

Denis the Jeweler Engagement Ring

Before I hop into the details of my visit, let me set the scene for you. I couldn’t have picked a better day to stop by Denis the Jeweler. It was a crisp, cool autumn day and the warm lights of the jewelry cases just beckoned you in. “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” (the Marilyn Monroe classic) played on the TV in the background. Everything set the tone for a great experience!

 A Little About the Business

Dennis is a second generation jeweler — his father was also a jeweler. He is certified in gemology, watch repair, and jewelry fabrication. He also has two certifications from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), which is the world’s foremost authority on diamonds, gem stones, and pearls. The shop used to be located on 7th and Main, but has relocated to 10th and Main. They’ve also recently expanded!

Products & Services

Among the services offered, there is watch repair, jewelry restoration, and jewelry appraisal. On a personal note, one of my favorite features is that they do repairs in-store rather than shipping them somewhere else.

At Denis the Jeweler, they are very detailed about letting people know exactly what they’re getting. They also try to ensure the ring will fit the lifestyle and profession of the recipient.

The full line of engagement rings are all models and prototypes. They have this amazing CAD software to where you can completely customize the ring. I got to see a run though, and was so impressed. It actually made me wish I’d discovered Denis the Jeweler before I got engaged!

Specialty

Shop Denis the JewelerThree C’s — choose, change, and create. Choose the display ring that most suits your taste, make desired changes via the CAD software to create a ring that fits your personal style.

You can also bring in an heirloom piece and have it reset.

Tips for the Bride and Groom

There’s a lot of stuff out there on the internet, but you don’t get any personal service. You want to trust who you are working with. Plus there’s the issue of service, who is going to take care of it? The benefit of Denis the Jeweler is that they do repairs in-house. You get personalized service and your ring stays right here!

To check out Denis the Jeweler for yourself head over to 10th & Main in downtown Stillwater.       Website: denisthejeweler.com                                                                                                                            Facebook: facebook.com/denisthejeweler
