Stillwater Wedding Central

Stillwater OK

Paper Union Co.

I’m delighted to feature Stillwater’s very own stationer, Paper Union Co., in our latest Local Vendor Spotlight. Check out the interview with owner and designer Amanda Howerton below!

Tell us about Paper Union Co.

The Paper Union Co. was born out of a desire to see weddings and other special events be unified through their printed pieces from beginning to end. It is such a treat to receive a save the date, invitation, and day-of stationery that is beautiful, cohesive, and perfectly reflects the couple’s personality and tastes—and that’s what I want to design for every bride of mine. The name Paper Union comes from the fact that all of your paper pieces will be unified, and the word union is also a sweet reminder of the holy union of marriage.

What products & Services do you offer?

The Paper Union Co. provides wedding invitations and day-of stationery for the bride who wants a completely branded experience for her wedding. I work one-on-one with every bride to make sure her dreams become a reality—it’s as if she has her own personal designer for her wedding day. In order to achieve the goal that every wedding is a beautiful representation of the couple’s vision as well retains a cohesive look, every Paper Union bride receives the following: save the dates, invitations, RSVP cards, ceremony programs, menus, and thank you notes, and all necessary envelopes—with many additional add-ons available!

What is your specialty?

While the Paper Union will do branding for other events like baby showers and graduations, its specialty is definitely in providing pretty printed paper pieces (that’s a mouthful!) for weddings. Oh, and everything is custom! Paper Union don’t offer any pre-designed lines—so your wedding day designs will be 100% yours.

Do you have a favorite font? Color Combination?

Favorite font and color combination?! That’s a tough question! Our wedding was super colorful because I couldn’t settle on what were my favorite colors to use—haha! I DO love fresh, minty blues though… and bouncy scripty typefaces will always be my go-tos.

How far in advance of their wedding should couples contact you?

Really, it is never too early to get in touch with a stationer to discuss your wedding day dreams as we tend to book up in advance with the nature of our work. But as far as a time frame goes, you should be sending save-the dates roughly 6–10 months in advance of your wedding, so about a year out from your wedding would be a good time to sit down and discuss all of your ideas so your wedding celebration can be as cohesive as possible from start to finish.

Any tips for couples hoping to book with you?

Even though we don’t necessarily get booked for particular days (like a photographer would), the care that goes into your customized wedding designs takes a lot of time, so the Paper Union Co. doesn’t take too many concurrent projects. So get in touch sooner rather than later! Another tip is to dream big about ideas that you have for your goods—there are so many paper and printing options out there including metallic ink and foiling, not to mention diecuts and other specialty effects. The sky really is the limit! You don’t have to have everything laid out in your mind when you contact the Paper Union, but it helps to have your basic color palette and a general idea of the direction you want your wedding day designs to go.

Blue Elephant Photography

Few things encapsulate the memory of your wedding day quite like stunning photographs. The lovely couple behind Blue Elephant Photography, Scott and Kristine Redekopp, are true artists, capturing some of the most brilliant images I’ve seen… and I’ve been in the bridal business for quite some time now. I recently caught up with them for an interview.

Tell us a little about Blue Elephant Photography

We are a husband and wife wedding photography team based out of Stillwater, OK. Kristine is from the Philippines, Scott is from Canada, and home is wherever we are together. We shoot mainly here in the South but we will travel anywhere in the world, which we have. For us, there is nothing more fulfilling and humbling than documenting the connection and the story of two people who are madly in love with each other.  We will photograph anything having to do with two people in love which includes weddings, engagements, anniversaries, or just because love sessions. We love adventures so nothing is too far away for us!

What is your photography style?

We describe our photos as moody and emotional. We love raw emotions, candid shots, and real moments. For weddings, our goal is to tell the whole story of the day so that when you look at the photos you feel like you’re there. Whenever possible we like to take our couples on adventures even if they’re mini ones. We look for forests, mountains, and waterfalls or we may opt for undiscovered cityscapes. Even in a place like Oklahoma there are hidden gems that aren’t too far away.

What is your favorite part of wedding photography?

We have several favorite parts during the wedding, we love the slower thoughtful time while getting ready. There is an energy in the air made of excitement and building anticipation. When all the girls and guys are relaxed and just hanging out in the morning, many times that’s when you get the best shots. And we love when the couple opts to do a First Look, which is when they see each other privately before the ceremony and they get the chance to be intimate, gush over each other, and quell any nerves.

Have you had any particularly interesting/exciting shoots?

We love to travel! So anytime we get to shoot somewhere new is exciting for us. Our most memorable shoot so far was a vow exchange at the top of a mountain in New Zealand. We started out with the couple at the base early in the morning while fog still blanketed the area. For 4 hours we hiked up the mountain trail raising not only above the fog but above the clouds! The view was amazing and the couple are awesome humans to spend the day with!

Any tips for couples as they look for their ideal wedding photographer?

We always encourage our couples to shop around. The first thing is to look at the style of the photos and the feelings you get when you look through their work. Meet the photographer or at least Skype them to make sure you’re a good fit. They will be with you the entire day and it’s definitely one of the most important days in your life. You want to make sure that you’re surrounded by people you get along with. Doing an engagement session is a great way to get more relaxed lifestyle photos plus it’s a chance to test out your photographer. Don’t be afraid to shop around if you weren’t happy with the experience. When looking for wedding vendors in general always remember that your wedding is a celebration and planning your wedding should be fun!
